Rock On Alvernia!

Band T-Shirt Day

Badyr’s Quote of the Week

I like to encourage people to realize that any action is a good action if it's proactive and there is positive intent behind it.

From The Pool

Hello from the pool staff! We always encourage our staff to connect and engage with campers. Specifically, we’ve been setting the goal for them to be the reason that a camper is excited for their pool period.

“I was on stand for a swim lesson with the Sandpipers. Piper was trying to splash me every time she swam past the lifeguard stand. It was a cute, funny moment of connection with a camper,” shared Tom, co-pool director.

“I loved playing peek-a-boo with the Ducklings through the pool gate. They were all smiling and laughing with me,” added James, one of our lifeguards.

“I was hanging out with Madeline from the Sandpipers. She was upset for a moment and didn’t want to go in the pool at first. I encouraged her and asked if she would go in with me,” Katie said, a team leader on our staff. “We went in the water together and worked on ice cream scoops,” the phrasing we use to teach proper arm technique while swimming, “and Madeline would yell ‘chocolate scoop! Vanilla scoop!’ while alternating arms.“

These are the moments we cherish as a summer camp lifeguard staff. We’ve been having so much fun with the campers and can’t wait for the weeks to come.

Eagles

The first week of Session 2 has been a fantastic kickoff to an exciting summer at camp! Campers dove right into the fun, with one of the standout moments being the Eagle Pool Party. Alongside the splashing and sunshine, we hosted a paper plane contest that brought out everyone’s competitive spirit. After some impressive flights, Sofia Russo soared to victory and won a free canteen treat—an awesome reward to top off a great afternoon!

Another highlight of the week was Band T-shirt Day, where campers and staff rocked their favorite music tees, showing off their individual style and taste. From classic rock to modern hits, the camp was full of personality and pride. A special shoutout goes to Christina Herbst, who showed her teen spirit with her Nirvana shirt. It’s been a week full of energy, creativity, and connection. As we prepare for our next teen travel of axe throwing it’s going to be axe-citing!!!

Herons

The Heron age group at Camp Alvernia has had an incredible start to the second session! We were thrilled to welcome even more campers this week with the addition of Groups 5 and 6. The energy and enthusiasm have been high, and it’s been wonderful to see both returning and new campers getting involved in all the fun.

Sailing certification has kicked off again, and despite the cooler weather, campers have been eager to get in the pool and out on the water. Special shoutout to Colin, Shiloh, Gabby, and Charlie who are working hard toward earning their sailing certifications!

As the session picks up momentum, excitement is building for tonight’s campfire. Looking ahead, everyone is buzzing with anticipation for next Thursday’s Special Day: Color Wars! Half of the Herons will be on the red team and half on the blue, and the friendly competition promises to be full of spirit and teamwork. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable second session for the Heron age group!

Ospreys

Session 2 is off to a great start for the Ospreys here at Camp Alvernia. New campers quickly settled in, thanks to our returning Ospreys who did a great job making everyone feel welcome. We kicked off the week with some classic camp fun, including tie-dyeing t-shirts—each one turned out completely unique.

Wednesday was Band T-shirt Day, and the group really got into the music and showed off their favorite bands and musicians. Throughout the week, we stayed active with plenty of sports, and Nicky, Leo, and Mac really showed off their effort and teamwork. Whether it was on the field or during group games, they set a great example. The energy has been high, and it’s been great to see the group already coming together. We’re looking forward to more good weather, fun activities, and time outside in week two.

Plovers

The Plovers had such a fun start to session 2!

Nature was the highlight of the week for many! The campers enjoyed making collages in nature using colorful leaves and rock from the waterfront. They also loved playing Jeopardy and learning interesting facts about animals!

The Plovers wore their best band t-shirts on Wednesday, and were ready to rock and roll all day! We’re looking forward to many more special days to come!

Ducklings

The Ducklings loved getting in the water this week! The lilypad at waterfront was everyone’s favorite activity, and Elio and Josie had fun splashing around on it. They also got to spend some time in the big pool, working on their swimming skills and confidence! The campers loved going to dance and singing along with their favorite songs, like “The Veggie Dance” and “Let It Go”.

At nature, they got to collect various outdoor items, like sticks, leaves, rocks, and more, and they made a nature collage with them! The Ducklings also welcomed two new friends to our group this week, Franklin and Thomas, and we’ve loved getting to know them! We’ve been splashing in the pools, making tie dye, and making friends all week! We’re looking forward to a great second half of Session 2!
