Hello Parents,
We are officially in full swing here at Camp Alvernia and have been fortunate to have warm, sunny weather in our first week. Below you will find a weekly recap direct from our talented group supervisors! We hope this provides a little glimpse into your child(ren)’s camp experience. If you have outstanding questions or concerns, please contact us anytime.
We hope you have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend!
Eagles
Happy first week of camp! We are having a fantastic time starting off week one of a fun filled summer. In our first week of camp, we had our first trip to Captree State Park to go fishing. The campers loved the trip and were very determined to catch a fish. It was amazing to see how excited the campers were for each other when someone caught a fish. Truly was a supportive environment!
We also had our first Eagle team building activity on Wednesday and everyone had a great time, cooperating and building on our teamwork. We are having a great first session with all the Eagles. Can’t wait to see how much we progress and how much fun we have throughout the summer.

Herons
Summer is off to a fantastic start here at Camp Alvernia! Our campers have jumped right into the action with a variety of exciting activities. At the waterfront, many have begun working toward their sailing certifications, learning important skills and gaining confidence on the water. Over at the pool, swimming lessons are helping everyone stay cool while building strong swimming techniques. On land, our sports fields are buzzing with energy as campers enjoy baseball, soccer, and the ever-popular game of Gaga. It’s been an action-packed start, and the enthusiasm is contagious!
We’re especially proud of campers Joe, Ava, Maya, and John who have stepped up as great role models for the new Heron campers—helping them feel welcomed and showing them how to make the most of camp life. Despite the hot weather, everyone is staying safe by reapplying sunscreen and staying hydrated throughout the day. Water activities continue to be a camper favorite, providing both fun and a perfect way to beat the heat. We’re thrilled with how the summer is shaping up and can’t wait for even more great moments to come at Camp Alvernia!
Wishing you a Happy July 4th Weekend!

Ospreys
The Ospreys have had an eventful week! On Monday, we learned about the Alvernian way, Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect the Environment. We met our counselors and started the week off with lots of fun. On Tuesday, it was hot but we cooled off in the pool and at the waterfront. For a lot of campers, it was their first time sailing but it seemed like everyone was a pro! Micah caught 2 oysters and Presley joined in to explore the sea creatures at camp. On Wednesday, we had a bellyflop competition at the large pool and all of our campers showed off their skills. Harley, Lucia, and Brynn cooled off in the sprinklers at the Canteen and everyone enjoyed ice cream and snacks. On Thursday, we celebrated Charlotte’s birthday and showed up in our 4th of July spirit. We took a poll to see what the Ospreys liked more, hot dogs or hamburgers, and hamburgers won by a landslide! We are so excited for our next week of camp and we cannot wait to welcome the Ospreys back after the long weekend.
Happy 4th of July!

Plovers
The Plovers have been staying busy and having fun during week 1 of camp! The gaga pits and soccer field have been bustling with action. Plovers in groups 1, 3, and 7 enjoyed some friendly competitions. The arts and crafts cabin has been filled with imagination while Plovers design fun eye masks and crowns. Plovers in groups 5 and 10 made beautiful works of art. The Plovers also loved building creative houses and forts during lego time this week. Plovers in groups 2, 4, and 5 made skyscrapers almost as tall as the tent!
The Plovers have been staying cool by taking frequent water breaks, reapplying sunscreen, and enjoying the many aquatic activities here at camp. Some favorites include going down the water slides at main pool, power padding at the waterfront, and jumping in the sprinklers on the basketball courts. Every afternoon, we enjoy a refreshing snack from the canteen. Plovers in groups 6, 8, and 9 especially love showing off their hockey, foosball, and ping pong skills in the rec hall after their ice cream.
We’re looking forward to making more awesome memories when we return from the 4th of July weekend!

Sandpipers
Hello Sandpiper families!
We had an amazing first week here at Camp Alvernia. The Sandpipers have already hit the water in their power-paddlers and kayaks. The waterfront has been a great way for them to cool down and and learn water safety. On top of that, the Sandpipers have also been enjoying the the slide at the pool, after their swim lessons of course. They are always excited to get in the gags pit, as well as dance their hearts out on the stage! It is only week one and the fun is just getting started!
Happy July 4th!

Ducklings
What a fantastic first week it has been for our Ducklings! From the moment they arrived, our youngest campers have been busy exploring, playing, and getting to know one another. During cabin time, the Ducklings dove right into imaginative play—cooking up meals in the play kitchen, racing trucks across the floor, and gently caring for baby dolls. These moments not only spark creativity but also help the children build important social skills as they share, take turns, and create stories together. On the playground, we’ve seen smiles, laughter, and growing confidence as they climbed, slid, and explored the equipment with new friends by their side. Outdoor fun continued with soccer and basketball, where our Ducklings practiced kicking, running, and shooting hoops with big enthusiasm! At the pool, they splashed, giggled, and grew more comfortable in the water each day. It has been such a joy watching their friendships blossom as they cheer each other on, help one another, and bond over shared adventures. Whether they’re building towers, pretending to cook breakfast, or giggling during a game of duck-duck-goose, our Ducklings are off to a wonderful start. We are so proud of the independence, curiosity, and kindness they are showing already—and we can’t wait to see what Week 2 brings!
Quack Quack!
