American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Skills

Interested in getting a great summer job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. This course also includes the waterfront skills module, which allows you to lifeguard at a beach. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding that includes first aid, professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course.

This course will provide you with the following certifications:

  • Lifeguarding

  • Waterfront Skills (non-surf open water)

  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

  • First Aid

Required Age: 15 - Adult, all students must pass swimming requirements

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Score 80% or higher on 3 written tests (CPR/AED & First Aid, Lifeguarding, and Waterfront Skills)

  • demonstrate practical skills successfully

  • Pass final in-water skill scenarios

Course Dates (we are offering THREE courses, must attend all dates in your chosen course):

LG 1: Sat 6/4, Sat 6/11, & Sun 6/12 (8:30 AM – 7:00 PM)

LG 2: Sun 6/19, Sat 6/25, & Sun 6/26 (8:30 AM – 7:00 PM)

LG 3: Mon 6/20, Tue 6/21, Wed 6/22, & Thu 6/23 (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM)

Course Cost: $400 per participant, paid to the camp office prior to the start of the course

American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguarding

This course will provide you with the following certifications:

  • Shallow Water Lifeguarding (water with a maximum depth of 5 feet)
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • First Aid

Required Age: 15 - Adult, all students must pass swimming requirements

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Score 80% or higher on 2 written tests (CPR/AED & First Aid and Shallow Water Lifeguarding)
  • demonstrate practical skills successfully
  • Pass final in-water skill scenarios

Course Dates (must attend all dates) Tue 6/28 (4:30-8:30), Thu 6/30 (4:30-8:30), & Sat 7/2 (8:30-7:00)

NOTE: Must complete 7hrs 30min online component before 1st session.

US Powerboating Accelerated Safe Powerboat Handling

This course is a mostly hands-on, 8-plus hour class in which participants learn best practices for operating a powerboat by doing it – with the coaching and support of a seasoned instructor. Includes rules of the road, close-quarters maneuvering and docking, anchoring, man-overboard procedures and person-in-water recovery, and open-water boat handling. It’s Driver’s Ed for boaters!

Required Age: 12 - Adult, all students must hold NYS Safe boater certificate or have been born before May 1, 1988. Your free NYS safe boater certificate can be earned online at: https://www.boatus.org/newyork/

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Score 80% or higher on written test
  • demonstrate practical skills successfully

Course Dates (we are offering TWO courses, must attend all dates in your chosen course):

ASPH 1: Mon 6/13 (5:30-8:30), Mon 6/20 (5:30-8:30), & Mon 6/27 (4:30-7:30)

ASPH 2: Sat 7/2 (8:30 AM -6:00 PM)

American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Includes training in care of adults, children, and infants. Training includes victim assessment, care for obstructed airway (conscious and unconscious), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for those in cardiac arrest, and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Score 80% or higher on written test
  • demonstrate practical skills successfully

Course Dates (we are offering THREE courses):

CPRO 1: Wed 6/15 (11:00-3:00)

CPRO 2: Tue 6/21 (5:30-9:30)

CPRO 3: Wed 6/22 (5:30-9:30)

American Red Cross First Aid: Responding to Emergencies

Advanced victim assessment and first aid techniques.

Must have already completed CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and self-study before first session.

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Score 80% or higher on written test
  • demonstrate practical skills successfully

Course Dates (we are offering ONE course, must attend both dates): Tu 6/28 & Th 6/30 (4:30-7:30)

American Red Cross Lifeguard Management

The Lifeguard Management course is designed to prepare aquatic professionals to effectively manage lifeguards and help keep patrons, staff and facilities safe.

Recommended (not required): 18+ yrs old, lifeguarding experience

Course Organization: Session 1: In-person review class ·
Session 2: Review/ In-person NYS exam

Course Dates (we are offering ONE course): Wed 6/29 4:30-8:30pm
