Interested in getting a great summer job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. This course also includes the waterfront skills module, which allows you to lifeguard at a beach. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding that includes first aid, professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. Course Dates (we are offering THREE courses, must attend all dates in your chosen course):
LG1: Saturday 6/12 & Sunday 6/13 - 8:30am - 6:30pm, Sunday 6/20 & Sunday 6/27 - 8:30am - 5pm
LG2: Monday 6/14 & Tuesday 6/15 - 8:30am - 6:30pm, Wednesday- Friday 6/16-6/18 8:30am - 2:30pm
LG3: Tuesday 6/22 & Wednesday 6/23 8:30am - 7pm, Thursday 6/24 & Friday 6/25 - 8:30am - 4:30pm
Recommended Age: 15 - Adult, all students must pass swimming requirements Course Cost: $400 per participant, paid to the camp office prior to the start of the course
NOTE: All Camp Alvernia staff will be refunded course cost upon successful completion of the 2021 summer season.
This hands on course is for anyone who wants to learn how to safely operate a powerboat or improve their on-the-water boat handling skills and already has or does not need a State Boating Safety Certificate. The course is taught by a US Powerboating certified instructor who covers safe boat operation, docking, close quarters maneuvering, anchoring, navigation rules & navigation aids, safety equipment, emergency procedures, rendering assistance and a host of other topics. The course emphasizes on-the-water practical application of all skills. Please be advised that successful demonstration of practical skills and 80+% score on the written examination are required for certification. No practical boating experience is required. Students will be expected to study the course materials at home.
Students should bring food, as there will not be an opportunity to leave the property. Students should come prepared to go out on the water.
