Support Six Local Camp Families in Need

Ask your children two questions this Christmas.
First: “What do you want to give to others for Christmas?”
Second: “What do you want for Christmas?”

We’re doing some special things in December to support local families in need, and we’d love it if you’d join us. Read on to find out more!

1. Pancake Breakfast and Holiday Store – December 11

Come to Camp Alvernia’s cafeteria on Sunday Dec 11, anytime from 9am-Noon, to have pancakes! We’ll have a “store” set up where children can purchase inexpensive gifts for the members of their families. In addition, we’ll be selling Camp Alvernia winter clothing, including hats, long-sleeved shirts, and zippered hooded sweatshirts. All proceeds will go to support five local camp families in need.

Needs: Volunteers, milk, eggs, juice, pancake mix, syrup.

Please email to let us know if you’d like to volunteer and/or what you plan to bring, so we don’t have too much of one thing. Monetary donations and gift cards of any denomination will also be accepted.

2. PBJs and Carols – December 15

Come out to Camp Alvernia’s cafeteria Thursday December 15 at 5pm to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a local food pantry. We’ll have pizza together, then head over to Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Park Ave in Greenlawn to sing Christmas carols for the residents there. Please bring $5 per person to cover food and materials, and make sure to wear red, green, and white!

5pm PBJ-making and pizza

7-8pm Caroling at Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

RSVP by Monday December 12

Needs: Bread, peanut butter, and jelly. No sandwich bags needed.

Please email to let us know what you plan to bring, so we don’t have too much of one thing.

3. Gift Card Drive – Due by December 11
Do you have any gift cards in your wallet, desk, or purse that you keep forgetting about? Do you have cards with odd amounts or just a few dollars left? We’ll take them!

We have already begun collecting gift cards to support six local families in need. These are families that your children attend camp with, and they live right here in our community. We’d love to knock their socks off this holiday season by giving generously to help them get through what can be a very difficult time of year.

You can drop off your gift cards at the camp office, at the pancake breakfast, or mail them to Camp Alvernia, PO Box 301, Centerport, NY 11721. Please don’t wait! Gift cards are due by Sunday December 11!
